
A Patient-Derived Cell Biobank Enabling Modelling of Tumour Heterogeneity and Microenvironmental Control in Preclinical Cancer Models
Conventional cancer cell lines fail to recapitulate the tumour heterogeneity and stromal influences that drive tumour progression, metastasis and therapeutic response. Furthermore, their homogeneous nature contributes to the poor translation of preclinical findings into clinical success. In contrast, patient derived cell (PDC) models better retain clinically relevant tumour heterogeneity, providing a more physiologically relevant system for translational cancer research.
We have established a PDC biobank from patient tumour material and implemented a robust quality control (QC) workflow to generate clinically relevant, ethically governed preclinical models. Compatible with both 2D and 3D culture systems, this workflow integrates phenotypic and genomic characterisation to define heterogeneous cellular populations and support the development of biologically relevant models for studying tumour biology and tumour microenvironment interactions.
